JAFC Milford vs Ballybrown
Last Thursday our junior a footballers entertained Ballybrown in the second round of the city junior a football championship. This was a must win match for Milford as the winners would meet Monaleen in the final. The opening stages were keenly contested with Ballybrown drawing first blood with an early pointed free. But Milford responded well and were deservedly level after five minutes following some great work by Luke Mcginty. Both sides traded frees before an excellent Ballybrown point from play restored the visitors advantage. Milford now rallied and some resolute defensive play was creating a solid platform for the Milford attack. But despite the home teams dominance Milford could only muster two points during this period and a late Ballybrown point left the half time score level at four points a piece.
The second half commenced with Milford continuing to dominate and Milford took the lead for the first time with a well worked move involving Shane Galvin, Mark Conway and David Hawe. Ballybrown quickly levelled before a Ray Moloney point put Milford back in front. However Ballybrown’s superior fitness levels now started to have an impact and they began to win some vital possession in midfield. Two points in quick succession put the visitors back in front and as Milford piled forward chasing an equalising score, a quick Ballybrown break resulted in another Ballybrown point and they ran out eight points to six winners in what was an excellent match.
Milford GAA club wish Ballybrown the best of luck for the reminder of the championship and would like to thank all our players and supporters and especially the management team of Joe Redington, Kevin Keenan, John Redington and Neil Clancy for their efforts during the year.
