Two tough football matches highlight Milfords battling qualities
Last Tuesday evening our junior footballers travelled to Bruff for the final round of the all-county league. Milford started well and a Luke McGinty point put them into an early lead. The opening exchanges were eagerly contested by both teams with the scores level on several occasions. However as the half drew to a close Bruff began to dominate and some well taken scores gave them a 7 points to 4 half time lead. After the break Bruff stretched their lead to five with two well taken points. However Milford dug deep and some excellent points and a Ger Collins penalty brought the sides level. A Bruff goal with ten minutes to go saw the homeside regain the advantage and despite some stern Milford resistant the home side ran out 1-14 to 1-10 winners.
On Thursday evening our footballers contested the city intermediate semi final/senior quarter final against Na Piarsigh. This proved to be a very entertaining game and an excellent advertisement for football in the city division. An early Na Piarsigh goal proved an initial set back for Milford but after a hard fought first half the sides were separated by a single goal 1-6 to 0-6 at the break. Upon the resumption three well points by Milford were enough to level the match but Na Piarsigh battled back to reassert their lead. A frantic final five minutes saw goal mouth action at both ends before an injury time Milford point levelled the match. Final score Milford 0-15 Na Piarsigh 1-12.
Upcoming fixtures: All-county Hurling v Staker Wallace Tuesday 3rd of June and v Camogue Rovers Thursday 5th June.
